Google Ads audit: what we review in an existing account

An account review is the starting point for taking over existing Google Ads management. Before changing campaigns, we agree the services you want to promote, where you can take on clients and what counts as a useful enquiry. We then compare the account settings and recorded results with those goals. For a new account, this becomes a setup and measurement plan rather than an audit of past performance.

The review needs access to your Google Ads account and, where relevant, the connected tracking and landing page. Information about enquiries and their outcomes helps explain the numbers. Where access or reliable data is missing, that is a limitation to resolve, not evidence that a campaign is working or failing. Review scope and any changes are agreed before work begins.

Search terms, negative keywords and location settings

Keywords are the terms you target; the search terms report shows available queries that actually triggered ads. We compare those queries with your services, checking for research-only searches, job seekers, unrelated services and requests outside your coverage. The report does not reveal every query, so it cannot provide a complete picture on its own.

We review keyword match types and negative keywords together. An overly broad match can bring irrelevant traffic, while an overly broad exclusion can block useful searches. Location settings also need to match where your business serves clients, including whether targeting includes people interested in an area rather than physically there. Any changes should be checked against enquiry relevance, not just a lower click count.

Conversion tracking: check what is counted as an enquiry

A page view, button click, connected call and completed enquiry form are different actions. We review which actions are marked as primary conversions for bidding, which are secondary observations and whether the same enquiry could be counted more than once. A high conversion total is not useful if it mainly counts visits or clicks instead of the actions you agreed to measure.

Calls and form submissions each need a tested measurement path. Recording appointments or later client outcomes depends on compatible systems, permissions and information your business can supply; it is not assumed to be available. Google Ads reporting and CRM records may differ because of attribution, timing and consent settings. An audit should flag those limits rather than present a click or form as a confirmed client.

Budget, bidding and the ad-to-enquiry path

We look at where spend is going across campaigns and search terms, the bid strategy in use and the conversion signals it relies on. Brand-name searches and searches from people discovering your service can have different intent, so blended averages need context. A short period or a small number of enquiries may not justify a major budget change.

The landing page review stays focused on the paid-search journey: does it match the ad, describe your actual service and coverage, and provide a working call or form path on mobile? Wider website design and organic SEO are separate scopes. A clearer enquiry path can be worth testing, but it does not guarantee a particular conversion rate, cost per enquiry or client outcome.

Turn the review into agreed priorities

We discuss the findings as practical priorities: measurement issues to check, irrelevant searches or settings to review, and campaign or page changes to test. We distinguish observed issues from hypotheses and identify what needs your access, materials or approval. The format and extent of any written audit, implementation and ongoing reporting are agreed in the scope; this is not a promise of a free standalone audit or a fixed turnaround.

After agreed changes, ongoing management compares spend and enquiry costs with the outcomes you can record. Clicks, enquiries, attended appointments and new clients remain separate measures. A review can identify questions and next steps, but cannot guarantee savings, lead volumes or future performance.

Australia-wide management from Perth

GrowthLine is Perth-based and can manage campaigns remotely for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and other Australian service areas. We agree your actual coverage rather than implying a local office in each city.

Ongoing reviews connect search terms and budget decisions with the enquiry outcomes you can record. Ad spend is paid separately; the agreed scope sets platform coverage, landing-page work and CRM connections. For a Perth-focused campaign, see our Google Ads Perth page.

Why GrowthLine

Direct access to the person running your account

GrowthLine is a Perth-based agency founded by Harry, a former buyers agent. You deal directly with the person running your campaigns.

We work with service businesses across Australia, with a particular understanding of property, finance and professional services.

We treat Google Ads as one part of the system. The landing page, how fast you respond and how well you follow up matter as much as the ads themselves.

How it works

From enquiry to an agreed next step

01

Strategy call

We look at your services, target area, current enquiries and budget to see whether paid ads make sense for you.

02

Plan

We agree the offer, targeting, budget, what counts as a good enquiry and how results will be reported.

03

Build

We agree your launch date after receiving the required access, materials and approvals and completing the launch checks.

04

Optimise

We review results with you, cut what isn't working and adjust targeting, ads and pages over time.

Pricing

Management starts at $1,490 / month + GST for one core campaign on a single platform, or $2,490 / month + GST for multi-channel campaigns across Google and Meta. Ad spend is separate and paid directly by you from your own account.

Platform coverage and deliverables are agreed before work begins. CRM connections, notifications and follow-up depend on compatible systems, access and testing. Qualification means agreed marketing-fit criteria, not credit assessment or a decision to engage a client. Follow-up follows the enquiry request, contact permissions, replies, bookings and opt-outs; a reply hands over to you. An unanswered or unqualified enquiry is not marketing consent.
